Modeling a 3d Character - Part 4
What's this? Two posts next to each other?! ... well, yes, I finished the mouth shortly after the nose. I, however, didn't want to bog one post down with 40+ pictures :P With that said, ONWARDS! ( ONWARDS I say! ) Current Mood: creativeCurrent Music: La Puerta de Alcala | | 11:51 am |
Modeling a 3d Character - Part 3
Now then. There are some things that will directly affect how my character looks and how my character moves once it is rigged to do so. One of these things are the poles, or rather the vertexes. Ideally, most of the faces in a model will quads, as in, they will have four faces. This is ideal since smoothing the model adds subdivisions to it, and the quad is the one that handles that best. This, an average pole will have four edges However, there are places in the model that have poles that have more or less than 4 edges, usually 3 or 5. This cannot be avoided in places. One that happens to be in a bad place will stand out when the character is moving. The trick, then, is making sure that these polygons are only where they are supposed to be, and in places where they won't hinder the movement so much. There is actually a nice page that explains this much better than I could. Here, have a look if you are interested! http://www.subdivisionmodeling.com/forums/showthread.php?t=907Now then... we move onwards to the nose! Modelling a 3d Character - Part 2
So! Last time we left off we had just done part of the eyeball. It's not finished yet, but it's mostly going to work as a reference now. One cool thing about Maya is the ability to use Layers. You can create a new layer, put certain objects there, and then freeze them (as in, you cannot select or modify them), hide them, or other such things. this is what I did for my reference picture and the eyeball. Anyway! We begin with the face ( More images behind! ) Current Mood: creative | | Saturday, August 11th, 2007 | | 9:02 pm |
Yasumicon
So! I went for an anime con for the first time in ever :O It was pretty small, all in all, and I doubt I'll return tomorrow (no money :( ). I ended up buying a book and a wallscroll, playing games, and taking PHOTOS! Only 19 or so. They follow here. ... will continue with the 3d character tomorrow, I believe >.> ( So many cosplayers! ) Current Mood: exhausted | | Thursday, August 9th, 2007 | | 9:48 pm |
Modelling a 3D character!
So, I'm in the process of making a 3d character for my advanced 3d modeling class. Perhaps more importantly, I'm going to be doing this almost polygon by polygon @_@ I've done characters before, using a different construction method: taking solid polygons and modeling them to shape each part of the body. This is fine, but I always ended up with heads and faces I simply didn't like. I'm doing this partly to remind myself of how to do it in Maya, since I tend to have a terrible memory, and I'll try to keep the pictures fairly small. That said, this will likely be fairly picture heavy. The progress will speed up, however, because I won't have to explain the process or the tools over and over again. ... so, we begin with the eye! ( Lots of images behind! ) Current Mood: creative | | Thursday, June 14th, 2007 | | 10:30 am |
2d Techniques Pencil test: Take two!
OK, so I had time before I turned in my pencil test, so I went in to fix some timing issues and get rid of those damn holes, as well as some other errors here and there. This is the final result! Current Mood: awake | | Tuesday, June 12th, 2007 | | 5:26 pm |
2d techniques final
So, this is my pencil-test of my current animation project. My intention is to go all the way and make it intoa full animation for my portfolio. There are some timing issues, and I lack the time (and patience) to fix them NOW, but I most certainly will in the future. Current Mood: accomplished | | Sunday, June 10th, 2007 | | 2:04 am |

Animatic!
I liiiive! So, in one of my classes (... two, actually) I had to make an animatic. This is the result, and I hope to actually make an animation out of it. All I'm really missing in it is a 'CLIMAX!!!' sound effect just before the hammer goes down for the first time. Current Mood: creative | | Wednesday, December 6th, 2006 | | 5:44 pm |

MEME!
Hokay! The rules, as they were apparently stated in this iteration: 1. Comment here and I will choose two of the [most embarassing] things off of your livejournal interests list, and then I will draw a picture that MAGICALLY COMBINATES them 2. I CHOOSE WHICH INTERESTS AND YOU DO NOT 3. PUT THIS IN YOUR JOURNAL WITH THINGS YOU'VE HAD DRAWN - BREAK THE CHAIN AND NINJAS WILL BREAK INTO YOUR HOUSE AND PISS IN YOUR MOUTH WHILE YOU SLEEP By Ben Current Mood: awake | | Saturday, February 4th, 2006 | | 9:37 am |

Update and stuffs
Well, it's been a few days... First, about my classes: I'm seeing 5 of them, and they seem fairly basic overall... Team Effectiveness (how to work as a TEAM! :p), Introduction to Computer Sciene (mostly stuff I have done already), Basic Design (This would be my THIRD time seeing this class, but it's different enough), History of Animation (We get to see cartoons! Yeha, that's rough), and Drawing and Perspective (I have several different Drawing classes in this career, I LIKE). I HOPE I don't have too much trouble with the first semester. It would be inexcusable from my part ._. On other news, the dorm room just got a lot nicer thanks to the bigger mattress. YAY! I need to clean it a bit though. Kinda dity. The spot wher ethe dorms are is great too... we have a just about everything nearby! ... including a huge Hustler store a few blocks away, which makes me blink each time I go past it. I'm pretty stunned at the amount of money I've spent already... basically only on food. Food is what is really killing me here... not that I can cook anyway, but with the lack of some things (toaster, for example) due to fire regulations, what I can eat is fairly limited. And what's with the food here lacking so much salt? Blah >p For now... yeah, I think dazzit. Weeeeee. Current Mood: blah | | Monday, January 9th, 2006 | | 7:29 pm |
First Day
Hokay! So, now I have a nifty conputer (yay!) but no Internets (boo). I'll apparently be getting that on friday. Here's to hoping. Now, if I didn't have to buy a phone service I likely won't use at all, everything would be peachy. The provider of said internets will be Bellsouth through DSL. Had my first two classes today. From 8am to 11am, a class that is basically about the advantages of teamwork. It would probably be a much easier class if the midterm and final didn't depend on all the teamembers being in the classroom, or else the entire team loses half their points! Weeee... The second class... uh... appears to be about basic computer stuff. Handy for some things, I guess, but I already know how to do much of the things it wants to teach. I guess we'll see. The night at the room was kinda... bleah. Too quiet for my liking (meaning I heard every creak and noise in the room and the ones nearby), and I'm not sure if my A/C is actually working? It certainly is quiet if it does. The matress is rather... er... shitty as well. I could feel the wood underneath just fine. Now, the thing -used- to be on a higher level, but me and my dad flipped it over. I'd rather not wake up each morning by bumping myself on the head with the roof. Tomorrow... I think I have a History of Animation class, and I dunno which is the classroom. Guess I'll have to catch an earlier shuttle to find out with enough time >p Current Mood: tired | | Saturday, January 7th, 2006 | | 1:03 pm |
Update from DORMS :O
Well, I haven't moved in -yet- (that happens tomorrow night), but I have my key and stuff. When I first saw the room i had, I nearly panicked... messy roomate, apparently (he wasn't there), and the room was just... depressing. When my parents saw it (yeah, they went there), they immediately talked me into seeing if I could get a room change, and... I could! The next roomate was apparently a culinary student and the room was much tidier and nicer. Still, even -after- that, my parents wanted me to ask if there were any single rooms. And... there are. More expensive and all, but there were a few. Saw one, loved it, took it. Am starting to move in. I can't finish with my stuff since I need to move the things in the room first, and... got, the furniture is heavy. Going to need a hand to move them. While I'm doing this, my parents are off looking for a car for me, and they seem to have found one already! Guess I'll know later in the day. As long as it has A/C, it's all good. A CD player would be nice, but it's not essencial :p Afterwards... well, we need to buy the stuff for the room (bedsheets, cleaning stuff, etc), a TV, and a COMPUTER! because I'm not going to live for much longer without a private computer. I neeeds eeet... ... cripes, so much stuff. I need to make sure I study hard since I don't want my parents to throw away their money ._. Happy New Year!
Well! I haven't had time to actually update since I arrived, since either somebody else would take the computer or the damn thing would be discharged :p The trip here on the 27th was fairly uneventful, really... nice plane, little to no lines anywhere, the immigration guy even saw me just about to jump out of my skin in the airport here and wished me good luck. In fact, the only sour bit was that my dad managed to get a bit lost on the way tp the hotel. We had to get a very large van... because we arrived with no less than -7 bags-, all of them filled with -my- crap. Ngah. Now, if I hadn't developed sudden walking problems (... friction burns from walking too much, I think) the first few days would have been better. Still! I finally managed to talk my dad into letting me buy a DS, along with Phoenix Wright. On other gaming new, I saw and okayed Guitar Heroes a bit. Looks extremely fun and it's VERY HARD x_x We are trying to find the driving booklet for Florida in other places rather than online. I really think I need to get a driving license fast. We are also looking for a car... I don't really care if it's used, as long as it has good air conditioner (HEAT KILLS ME). A CD player would be a nice bonus too. The main reason I want a car is that I have not seen -ANY- buses or cabs in Miami. How the heck do you move around if you don't have one? Finally... a computer. We haven't really started looking for one though. Hope it's at least on par (...or better >_>) than my old one. We'll see, I guess :P I start college on the 9th, but the induction is on the 5th and 6th. I took the math test already, and... did well, despite not remembering how the HELL you divided fractions. No math remedial classes for me. Weeeee! This is going to be expensive as hell for my parents, so I gotta try and study hard. I want to see what the dorm looks like already too :P Anyway, happy new year ya'll. Current Mood: content | | Monday, December 26th, 2005 | | 9:20 pm |
last day at home
So, yeah, tomorrow morning, I'll be off to the US with my family. On Jan 9th, I'll start college, and on the 17th my family comes back to Colombia. I am ANTSY LIKE HELL. There are, like, no luggage ready, and one of my aunts chose to pay a visit for SOME REASON and I still have a ton of gigs to burn into DVDs. Since I have no skills in preparing luggage, I'm just taking my time and playing KoL while I burn stuff into DVDs. At this rate, I'll be done on monday, I think. I'll probably end up taking the USB HD so I can burn more stuff once we're in the US on my mom's lapton, so... Still, the last couple of days have been nice. I got to eat stuff I really like and which I don't think I can get in the US. I bought a BIG can of Arequipe to eat over there, so it'll have to last for a long while. Finally, DVDs aside, all my stuff is basically ready and done. Part of me is glad for going and finally getting -some- independance from my parents... I love them to death, but they really won't leave me alone sometimes. On the other hand... foreign country (with a language I thankfully speak), nobody I know nearby, and TINY DORM ROOM, which I'm hoping isn't so tiny. I fully expect the weather to kill me (I can't -stand- the heat). Still... well, I won't likely be posting much until the 9th. I hope I can make some small updates though :p ... but, man, I'll miss my country :/ Current Mood: anxiousCurrent Music: Vandread's OP | | Monday, December 19th, 2005 | | 8:55 am |
